Rascals Vol.3 – Games of Shadows

Rascals Vol.3 Pg.3

Summary of previous episodes: Jack and Marv’s lives run smoothly without major problems inside the “Doughty Tattoo Rascals”, a tattoo shop.

The calm of their days is disrupted by the arrival of a gang of shady individuals determined to put together the pieces of an ancient artifact… one of which is in Jack’s custody.
Attacked and robbed, the boys reach the old Master Iwama in Japan and discover the existence of an ancient practice devoted to rerouting the body’s internal energy flows through a mixed technique of tattooing and acupuncture. Iwama asks the young for help in recovering the artifacts from the hands of the criminals and barely has time to perform a channeling tattoo on Marv before the ruthless Kuboshi and his henchmen burst into the man’s property. The fight is uneven. Marv and the daring Nana manage to escape; Iwama is killed, and Jack’s fate seems now irreparably sealed…

While the whole world is buzzing for the release of the highly anticipated seventh cinematic episode of “Star Wars: The Force Awakens“, a much smaller niche of nerds is (also) waiting to get their hands on the third awaited episode of the amazingly original independent comic series named Rascals.
This third issue is titled “Games of Shadows” and, for those who were wondering, in this case too we’ll see a Force Awakening—though in slightly different terms and ways… since in Rascals we don’t have aliens and laser swords, but rather mystical tattoos capable of rerouting how energy flows within the human body…with results that are, as needed, decidedly bizarre!!!
On the official site, rascalscomics.com, preorders are open, waiting for the print shop to deliver the new, freshly printed issues… which, taking a wink at the world of American comics, are available in two versions: the regular one, with an illustrated cover… and the “variant cover white” with a “blank” cover that fans can have personalized by the series’ author or by their favorite artists, to get a one-of-a-kind piece for their collection.
We won’t give spoilers about the story of this chapter, but we’ll preview that the events take place three years after what happened in episode 2. Someone is very… very angry…could it be that they’ve turned to the dark side of the Force?

For content that’s a bit stronger than in the previous volumes, reading the issue is recommended for a more mature audience, from 14 years old and up.
